How to secure an internship?

The ultimate thing to put on college applications or to gain overall experience. But these seemingly unicorn opportunities are incredibly hard to find and even rarer for them to be relatable to you. Here are some tips from us that secured our first internship!

You should probably check these first…

Family

Your family is likely well-connected in some form of work. Don’t be afraid to ask for opportunities regarding where they work. You have a step up from others just from knowing a person on the inside. Use that to your advantage, and don’t be afraid. Don’t judge each opportunity, as each can offer valuable insights.

School

An important area students often overlook for opportunities is in their school. May it be announced in a school announcement or a pasted random poster in a teacher’s room, internships and opportunity runs amock. Other students probably ignore these, so don’t be afraid to ask.

LinkedIn

Here was our method for approaching bigger companies. Out of options, we looked to scouring high-profile individuals on LinkedIn. Shoot your shot. Message them with a quick ask of any opportunities you could receive. Don’t be discouraged from rejection, as it’s a grinding process. To relate it more to you, look for companies that you already know or have products that you use. For example, one of my favorite games, Roblox, utilizes other services like UI or Cloud Storage, and I scoured for individuals who worked in those companies.
